Theresa May and Emmanuel Macron grin for ‘le selfie’
It’s not quite in the same league as the famous Oscars selfie tweeted by Ellen DeGeneres, but the wide smile on Theresa May’s face shows she didn’t seem too concerned.
The Prime Minister beamed as she clearly enjoyed rubbing shoulders with media-savvy French President Emmanuel Macron in the age of Instagram and Twitter.
Snowstorms and gale force winds cause disruption across UK
Parts of the UK woke up to deep swathes of snow, while others battled felled trees and debris caused by winds of up to 93mph.
Here comes Storm Fionn !!
Storm Fionn officially hit Britain on January 16, leaving swathes of the country under deep snow cover following an intense -7C blast.
Forecasters warned of gusts of up to 90mph sweeping through the UK for the next two days – with strong winds set hitting the whole of England overnight into January 18.
Gusts reached 93mph in Capel Curig in Wales overnight, as well as 83mph in Tibbenham, Norfolk.
Fionn was predicted to bring eight inches of snow throughout the North West and North East of England, as well as Scotland, where an amber weather warning was in place.
On January 17 traffic bosses then closed parts of the motorway in Lanarkshire in both directions due to wintry conditions for a number of hours – with tailbacks stretching back for six miles.
The latest Met Office warning explained: “The location of the most damaging winds is currently uncertain, although parts of northern and eastern England along with southern Scotland currently look more at risk.
“Along with the strong winds a spell of heavy rain can also be expected, which could also be combined with a temporary thaw of lying snow in the north.”
The Environment Agency warned many river levels in the West Country rose, including the Hayle and Cober in Cornwall.
Meanwhile, southern Scotland, as well as northern and eastern England saw fierce gales sweep in.
Fionn is the sixth storm of the season.

Dolores O’Riordan will remain in our hearts forever
The Cranberries were a mirror of their front woman. Artistic and defiant, wrapped around a sweet nostalgia of long, lost love.
Dolores O’Riordan died on Monday, 15 January 2018, taking with her another piece of a decade robbed of some of its greatest stars.
Born in Limerick, an Irish town famous for breeding musicians and youth unemployment, O’Riordan came into The Cranberries when the band was already formed, replacing its front man Niall Quinn.
The year was 1990, and the band formerly known as The Cranberry Saw Us had morphed into the much catchier eponym The Cranberries.
But it wasn’t just the name that Dolores changed, it was also the songs and the style. At just 19, the short-haired girl with leather pants and a sweet smile presented the band with what would become one of their biggest hits.
Linger is the story of O’Riordan’s first love, a young soldier shipped away to Lebanon who stole her a kiss and then moved on.
She will remain in our hearts forever.
